Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is a drama series currently on-air on Star Plus. The series premiered on January 12, 2009. It is a heartwarming story revolves on a young couple who discover love after marriage. Set in a conventional arranged marriage situation, the show has been running close to three years. The concept of an arranged marriage is quite unique to the Indian culture. The families choose the bride and the groom as per their own beliefs and customs. The girl, Akshara, is born into a traditional Marwari family – the Maheshwaris of Udaipur. She lives a protected and sheltered life in a loving family who sets her up with a deserving boy of their community, Naitik, son of the Singhania family.
