Cable tv first got started around the end of 1948 and early 1949. Ed Parson is widely recognized as the father of cable tv as Ed owned a
radio station in Astoria Oregon. Ed and his wife was in Chicago to attend a broadcast convention in Nov 1948 and they saw a demonstration of the new Televison set. They also learned that a Television Station in Seattle about 125 miles away from Astoria was
about to start broadcasting right away, Ed looked around and found that he could rig up a hugh antenna and locate it on the top of Astoria Hotel.
Soon Ed was the only guy in Astoria with cable tv and his wife had lots of friends coming over to look at cable tv. Soon the weather turned windy and cold and every one wanted their own cable tv and Ed started hooking everyone up for an up front equipment fee Of $125.00 and small monthly subscription that started at $3.00.That
was the modest beginning of one of the largest cable tv startups
in the North West.
