Satellite or cable connection? – that is the question lots of Americans ask themselves when moving to a new house or flat. Watching TV has become one of the most popular leisure activities of the Americans and so no family today wants to be without a nice TV anymore. For a lot of people also having other than the regular channels is very important. They pay extra fees to receive channels like a special movie channel, sports channel or travel channel.
But what are the advantages and disadvantages of cable TV vs satellite TVreception? Let’s have a look at both of them:
Every American neighbourhood has a cable TV provider nowadays. With cable you are able to get a decent number of TV channels and with a set-top converter you can even get some of those pay channels if you like to. Some providers even give out some of these pay channels for free for a certain time period so that you can test them. Furthermore, you can also get a high speed broadband connection with it. You will then pay for TV reception in monthly instalments.
The biggest advantage of satellite TV is the high quality HDTV reception, which however also has its price. In the beginning satellite TV is definitely more expensive than cable TV. You will have to acquire a satellite dish antenna and a receiver. Don’t go for the very cheap models as these will lead to bad reception. You will then have to install the dish on the top of your house or in any other location where it is not obstructed by the opposite buildings. If you decide to move again you can simply take your antennae with you, unlike with cable TV.
