Academy Awards Show Is Stupid

When will the TV network executives wake up and realize that we, the public, do NOT care to watch your Academy Awards show!
I almost never agree with who the academy picks for their awards. A perfect example of this is the best picture award for this year went to Hurts Locker. But the best picture in my mind was Avatar, and the public agrees with me because it has been the highest grossing movie in the history of film making. And yes, I understand inflation and how these numbers are not really comparable to the past. I also know that we paid a premium for the 3D glasses. Yet still, more people went to see Avatar than any other movie that the academy nominated.
The real question is who are these academy members that get to nominate and vote every year? Well, let me tell you a story about the one I met. This guy was working for me in a dot com company because he was in between acting jobs. In fact, he was having a lot of trouble finding work. His wife, also an actor, was currently working on a movie overseas. So his wife let this guy do all the voting.
So, to show you how silly this Academy Awards are, this guy I knew went ahead and copied his voting sheet and passed it out to every employees in my company. The votes were tallied up, and that is what he sent into the academy. This took place awhile back, and he knew he would get in trouble for doing this, so I am withholding his name and the company name.
My point is, most of the 6,000 academy members who vote, are starving actors. They will usually only vote for an underdog. (And they do not vote for some rich and famous James Cameron). They prefer low budget films that display a lot of art. These types of movies I refuse to watch. In fact, for many years now I ignore any reference that is made to the awards, and choose only what I like to see.
So this Academy Show needs to be removed from public TV, and put on some closed circuit network for the Hollywood people to watch in private. They can pat themselves on their backs, and get all excited about how thousands of unemployed and starving actors thought that they did a great job! But if they really want to know the truth, check the box office receipts or the TV ratings. This is how we the public are telling Hollywood exactly how we feel about their work!
This is the one main reason why I like watching Reality TV. I especially like programs that have been produced by Mark Burnett. I think actors are too full of themselves, and I would much rather watch real people running around doing competitions and playing politics. Now that to me is excellent entertainment!

2005 was a great year for movies. There were a plethora of comedies, action, horror drama and animation movies but only five very well received 2005 movies were nominated for the most prestigious Best Picture of the Year Academy Award. The Aviator, starring Leonardo DiCaprio was in the running. This film told the story of Howard Hughes, an aviator and Hollywood film director who suffered from phobias which left him paranoid and anti-social. The all-star cast included Gwen Stefani, Alec Baldwin, Kate Beckinsale and Cate Blanchett. The film was produced by Michael Mann and Graham King.
Ray, another bio-pic starring Jamie Foxx was also nominated as best picture of the year. It tells the story of Ray Charles who was a famous pianist who lost his sight at a very early age and went on to become a legend. The film also features Kerry Washington and Regina King. The Celebrity Apprentice Is Again Unpredictable!
It was very interesting to see the first episode of NBC’s reality TV show, Celebrity Apprentice. There are contestants that I have personally forgotten about for years due to them either being off television, not playing sports, or not in office. While they are looking a little older and mature, they are definitely still celebrities with some amazing talents.
Donald Trump separates the celebrities into two teams, the men against the women. Last season, we saw how the women dominated the men in their performances of the weekly tasks. But this season, we see how this male team is actually very talented and could end up blowing out the women.
Each team ran a restaurant for one day, with all proceeds going to the winner’s (project manager) favorite charity. From what I could see, it really came down to menu pricing. Of course, without any time to perform test marketing, each team had to “wing” it and simply guess what would be the correct pricing for this task. Then there was the question of expertise, with the male team having the celebrity, Curtis Stone, who is a master chef. The women had no such expert on their team.
This was a timed task, so when the day ended the girls still had people waiting in line outside their restaurant, (which included some big contributors), who never made it inside. It seems the women priced their food too low, ($20), and had their tables filled with the general public who were not big money contributors.
The guys priced their menu meals starting at $100, so they ended up with only serious contributors who were invited to tip generously for charity. Their plan worked, as they were able to accommodate everyone within this timed task.
The girls got help with their task when Donald Trump sent out Joan Rivers to check up on each restaurant and decide who was doing the best job. She picked the girls over the boys, because Rod Blagojevich, (twice-elected former governor of Illinois), was too busy shaking hands then waiting on tables. Consequently, Joan’s food was delivered late and was cold. So Joan chose the girls restaurant over the men, and an additional $10,000 was contributed to their receipts.
In the board room, we find out that the guys strategy paid off handsomely. Despite Joan’s donation, the men still collected more money than the women. In the end, a total of $100,000 was given to Bret Michaels, the award-winning singer, who as project manager will give the money to his favorite charity to help those kids who have become diabetics (like himself). The men were then dismissed from the board room, but invited to watch the debates with the women on their closed circuit TV in the hotel.
At first, the women would not blame anyone for loosing this task. Cyndi Lauper, (who has had record sales in excess of 25 million), was ultimately responsible for the failure as the project manager on this task. After repeated probing by Donald Trump, the girls began to melt down and gave out a name. They blamed Carol Leifer, (the acclaimed and talented stand-up comedian). With no other names to put out on the table, it was then Carol Leifer who became the first celebrity apprentice to be fired from this season’s show.
It looks like Executive Producer, Mark Burnett, has another hit show on the air with this season of Celebrity Apprentice. While we continue to watch his reality TV show, Survivor, we will definitely be also tuning into this show.

80s TV Shows

My six year old daughter sat down last evening to watch her 30 minutes of television and I was amazed at what she chose. I suddenly found myself, sitting next to her, watching Gummi Bears. Adventures of the Gummi Bears used to be one of my favorite 80s TV shows. Back in the 1980s, it was incredibly popular and I can remember staring at the TV in absolute awe at quite a few shows that have found their way back into the lives of our children. Suddenly, The Smurfs are popular once again. I find myself quickly remembering all of the names of the Smurfs and the human characters that had been introduced into their world. I would have never guessed that I’d be seeing them again. Who would have ever thought that some of the cartoon 80s TV shows would be for sale on DVD in the year 2010? Strolling the aisles of our local toy store this past holiday season, I was suddenly noticing Smurf figurines and some stuffed Alf toys.
Out of nowhere, some of our beloved 80s TV shows are being made into movies. The cartoon, Transformers, which had been incredibly loved back in my childhood has been made into a huge box office hit in recent years. Miami Vice was made into a movie. Two of the most popular and widely admired characters from 80s TV Shows were the famous Crockett and Tubbs. Everyone knew who they were and adored them.
